Time is running out to apply for a share of $25,000 in funding under the ACT Government’s 2010-11 Youth InterACT Grants program.
The program is for young people aged between 12 and 25 with great ideas for a project or activity that can benefit their peers, and need a little funding to get it off the ground.
But people need to act quickly, and get their application in before Monday 6 September.
ACT Minister for Children and Young People Joy Burch today said that the 2010-11 grants program was still open for applications for funding of up to $1500 for an individual initiative.
“Young people are creative and enthusiastic members of our community who have much to offer,” Ms Burch said.
“They are able to identify a need among their peers - and then respond with practical solutions. Quite often it’s money that holds them back from bringing a good idea to fruition.”
Ms Burch said projects that had been funded in past years included an anti-bullying DVD, an underpass mural, a high school student radio station, a mentoring program for vulnerable young people and a sculpture garden. Each had demonstrated positive outcomes.
“Previous grants rounds have shown that even a small amount of money can assist with developing an innovative event, a program or an activity that assists young Canberrans.”
Applications for projects that supported any of the five priorities identified in the 2009-14 ACT Young People’s Plan were encouraged. The priorities are: health, wellbeing and support; families and communities; participation and access; transitions and pathways and the environment and sustainability.
Applications close on 6 September 2010. Visit www.youth.act.gov.au for application packages, or contact the ACT Youth Directorate on 6205 0632.
