The ACT Government is calling for applications to manage the territory’s new Carers Advocacy Service, which will provide carers with a central point of information
The advocacy service will streamlines information for carers about respite care, financial and legal assistance, as well as education, employment and community activities that they could access.
ACT Minister for Disability, Housing and Community Services Joy Burch said 2010-2011 ACT Budget allocated $424,000 over four years to fund the service, in recognition of the valued role of carers in the ACT community.
“The advocacy service will enable carers to make better use of existing services and programs by providing a ‘front door’ and reducing administration,” Ms Burch said.
“It will respond to the frustrations carers often face in accessing the services and programs available to them.”
Ms Burch said the Service will take a coordinating role, working in partnership with other organisations in the carers sector.
““The establishment of the Carers Advocacy Service and its objective meets a direct request from carers in the ACT, and it will help them to better focus on their caring roles.”
