Canberra World Refugee Day Soccer Tournament - 19 June

The Canberra World Refugee Day Soccer Tournament is an annual one day event, in the lead up to Refugee Week. The aim of the tournament is to raise awareness about refugee communities in the wider ACT community, and provide a welcoming forum to showcase the strengths of refugee communities.

Companion House coordinates the day every year in consultation with local communities. This year, teams from the Sudan, Sierra Leone, Liberian, Chin, Karen and Mon communities will compete in the friendly soccer matches.

The 2010 Soccer Tournament will be the sixth year that the event has occurred. It has grown each year, with several hundred people attending the 2009 tournament.

WHEN: The day will run from 10am to 3pm on Saturday June 19th. There will be childen's games and a free barbeque (12.30 to 1pm). It is a free community event. Trophies will be presented between 2.00 and 3.00 pm.
