Kambah Centre Master Plan

This project aims to establish how the Kambah group centre can continue to develop to meet the needs of the local and wider community to be safe, economically viable and sustainable.

The draft Kambah master plan is available here.

You can comment on the plan by emailing Kambah@act.gov.au or by sending a letter to Kambah group centre master plan, PO Box 1908, Canberra ACT 2601.

Comment on the draft master plan closes Friday 16 September 2011.

Following input from the community the final master plan will be a non-statutory document that outlines a vision to guide growth and development of the centre over the next 20-30 years.

ESDD (formally ACTPLA) is working closely with other government directorates and specialist consultants to inform the work.

It is also engaging with residents, lessees and local businesses owners who have contributed new ideas, provided feedback on preliminary ideas and have identify issues with the centre.

The future of the centre is being considered holistically in terms of land use, traffic, parking, environment, aesthetics, economic viability and growth and health and wellbeing.

When the master plan is finalised, it will be possible to do some things fairly quickly, such as release of Territory owned land where it is deemed appropriate. Other things, such as changes to the Territory Plan, will take longer.

The project area is shown here.

Consultation

Extensive consultation has been helping to inform the master plan. The following table lists consultation events held for this project.

Note: The draft design presented during Stage 2 of consultation is now undergoing substantial changes to layout. This is because concerns were raised about:

  • providing a new entrance to the centre from Kett Street,
  • how the plan would be implemented, and
  • the heights that were proposed for the centre.

Important note
The master plan will provide a broad framework for how future development will occur. It will not however provide detailed guidance on the appearance of buildings or the kind of materials they will be made from.
