Access to safe, secure and affordable accommodation is one of the most basic of human needs, and the dream of owning a home is one shared by most Canberrans.
Changes in the housing market over the past five years, particularly the sharp increases in demand, have made this dream more elusive for many Canberrans and has placed greater pressure on the private rental market and on public and community housing services.
The Affordable Housing Action Plan aims to help Canberrans at all points on the accommodation spectrum, from home-buyers and private renters to those in public and community housing.

In order to enable an exciting new range of affordable housing options, the ACT Government now requires 20 per cent of new housing in new estates to be priced under $337,000.
